            Realism remains alive because, in talented hands, it communicates in a way that nearly everyone can comprehend.
 
            In Realism Revisited, four artists approach the long-standing tradition of painting still life and landscape with fresh eye and unique perception. The Dutch masters as well as contemporary painters use the still life genre to speak clearly of their own time and their own culture. Their subjects are not approached as a mere copy of nature; ordinary objects are transformed by the interplay with light and the encounter of each artist with his or her subject matter. Beauty becomes part of the story - the worth of this visible material world.

            Ann Didusch Schuler, a prolific painter and instructor, has exhibited in many universities, hospitals, and other public and private collections throughout the country including the Governor's Mansion, Annapolis, MD; the Reserve Officers Memorial; the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC; and the Lyric Opera House, Baltimore, MD. She has been honored by the Maryland Historical Society as the senior active female portrait painter in the state, and also is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America (OPA). Ann is the fourth generation of artists in the Didusch family and is the founder of the Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore, MD.
 
            David Buckley Good is a graduate of Bowling Green State University and the Schuler School of Fine Arts, where he is an instructor. A prolific painter, David renders a variety of subjects but is especially drawn to plein-air painting. In October 2001, Les Amis de la Grande Vigne invited David to live and paint as an Artist in Residence in the medieval city of Dinan, France. He completed over 40 paintings and drawings of the city and its environs. Realist painting is a meditative reflection between artist and subject. Like poetry and music, painting should evoke a mood and a spirit which transcends the subject portrayed. - DBG
 
            A graduate of the Schuler School of Fine Arts, Carol Lee Thompson continues to teach along with her colleague, David Buckley Good. Her exhibits include the Gilcrease Museum, The Butler Institute of American Art, The Cherokee Heritage Museum, and The Albuquerque Museum. Carol has received numerous awards, including the Liquitex Award, Witchita, KS; Black and Decker Purchase Award; and the State Purchase for Promotion, Baltimore, MD.
 
            Joan Johnson, also a graduate of the Schuler School of Fine Arts, has studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington and has a BA in Fine Arts from the University of California at Berkeley. She has received several awards and is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the American Society of Classical Realism and the Arts Council of Montgomery County, MD. more
